David William Knowlton

September 15, 1950 - March 14, 2013

A REALLY GOOD PERSON... WE WERE TRULY BLESSED TO HAVE KNOWN HIM.

David, 62, a beloved life partner, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.  David was a wonderful, talented, loyal, gentle, nourishing person and he is gone too soon.  He brought joy into the lives of his family and friends and is, and will be, missed so much.  David's resting place will be in Houston's historic Glenwood cemetery.  He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on September 15, 1950, to Bill and Charlotte Knowlton.  David is survived by his life partner of 37 years, Gray Lyman, by his sister, Susan Knowlton Rain, by Gray's sister, Sally Lyman Lasater, by his and Gray's nieces and nephews and by many, many friends.  David worked at the Houston Association of Realtors for more than 34 years and always felt that HAR was part of his extended family.

A FEW REMEMBERANCES OF DAVID'S LIFE...

AND THERE'S REALLY SO MUCH MORE...

MUSIC, LAUGHTER, DEVILISHNESS AND LOVE.

David's parents are married in Erie, Pennsylvania...

David moved to Houston in 1975 and met his life partner, Gray, in 1976.

And that was the start of 37 loving, rewarding, happy years together.

David and Gray in 1976 -- yes, it definitely WAS the 1970s "look"...

David and Gray moved into their wonderful home in 1979

and lived there blissfully and happily until David's death.

David and Gray were so happy together in their home...

So many joyous trips and vacations to remember...

Europe... Mexico... Palm Springs... San Francisco...

Disney World... Nevis in the Caribbean... so many.

And so much fun.

David feeding the birds... and the best place for waffles... in San Francisco...

More than 25 vacations in Mexico... Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta...

Nevis, Leeward Islands, Caribbean... where Gray's parents lived...

Disney World... David was always hesitant... but Gray insisted...

   And many summers in England...

And the Spruce Goose in Long Beach...

And so many more places... including summers in Paris... just too many places to name.

David and Gray always had one or two or three beagles...

and they all died from old age except for the last two.

"Beagle"... "Beagle" (2)... "Baby"... "Freckles"...

"Pete" (Peter Forbes Hamilton)... "Tammy Faye"...

and the two who miss him like we all do... "Otis" and "Lucy".

(Apologies to his deceased cats "Barbara Jordan" and "Jake"...

and to his surviving cat "Phil"... he loved them, too.)

David LOVED "the beagles" and they LOVED him...

Gray always thought David looked like a Teddy Bear...

so Gray gave David one for every birthday and for every holiday.

So MANY Teddys... where will they end up?

One of David's first Teddys... and his last (and biggest) Teddy (Christmas 2012)...

David loved his family... and Gray's family - his second family.

We all miss him so much and will cherish him for the rest of our lives.

David with Gray's mother (Peggy)... they really loved each other...
